US assessing results of military action against Al-Shabaab

The United States has carried out airstrikes against Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab militants in Somalia and is now assessing the results of its "operation" against the hardline militia, the White House said today.

"I can confirm that the US military conducted an operation in Somalia yesterday against the al-Shabaab network. "US officials are continuing to assess the results of that operation, and we will provide some additional information as appropriate," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters at his daily news conference.
