Plan to shut out errant Elders
November 28, 2014  16:44
The Rajya Sabha's committee of privileges today recommended that a member who causes repeated disruptions be "automatically suspended", suggesting for the first time a formal mechanism to discipline errant MPs, reports the Telegraph.

Under existing rules, the chairperson of the House of Elders has the authority to suspend an unruly member but the power has seldom been exercised.

By suggesting automatic suspension, the panel has tried to get around this problem of implementation, though the upper House has to clear the proposal.
