Gadkari defamation case: Court to resume hearing today
November 10, 2014  10:11
A Delhi court on Monday will hear a plea related to the criminal defamation case filed by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari against Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

The court had earlier directed Gadkari to be present for today's hearing, failing which it had warned that the plea would be dismissed.

In the earlier hearing of the court earlier this month, the court had also issued bailable warrant against Singh for failing to appear before the court.

The bailable warrant was issued after Singh's counsel asked the court to exempt him from personal appearance for the day.

The case was filed by the Union Minister in 2010 alleging that Singh had business links with the then MP Ajay Sancheti.

The case was filed under Section 499 (defamation) and Section 500 (punishment for defamation).

Gadkari alleged that Singh had accused him of taking around Rs 490 crore in the coal block allocation to Sancheti.
