Meanwhile, in the US mid-term polls -- the only Indian American in the US Congress, Democrat Dr Amerish 'Ami' Bera, 49, was in a dead heat with Republican challenger, former US Congressman Doug Ose, leading by a few hundred votes by 50.4 percent to 49.6 percent with 56 percent of the precincts reporting in Sacramento's 7th Congressional District.
Another closely-watched race in California, in Silicon Valley's 17th Congressional District, the iconic Asian American incumbent Mike Honda, 73, was leading comfortably by 53.5 percent over Indian American challenger Ro Khanna who had garnered 46.5 per cent.
