Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar could be headed to Delhi for a plum posting in the Narendra Modi government.

According to sources, Parrikar who is widely regarded as a man of integrity could be in contention for the defence portfolio when Prime Minister Narendra Modi reshuffles his Cabinet in the next couple of days.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who holds additional responsibility of the defence portfolio, has been keeping busy with the budgetary exercise, finalising the revised estimates for 2014-15 and Budget estimates for 2015-16 for plan and non-plan expenses.

Earlier in the day, Parrikar met BJP president Amit Shah amid reports that he may be inducted into the Cabinet.

He is also likely to meet Modi.

Asked about the speculation that he may be inducted into the Cabinet, Parrikar said, "I can comment on it only after meeting the prime minister. Let the prime minister who has invited me comment."
