PMO gets ready to welcome new PM

Dr Manmohan Singh, who gave in his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee this afternoon, has directed his secretary R Ramanujan, an IAS officer, to receive Narendra Modi, the new prime minister-in-waiting, at the entrance of the Prime Minister's office at South Block.

Modi will reach the PMO soon after his swearing-in ceremony, which may or may not take place on May 21. (See our earlier post). As per protocol, Ramanujan along with one additional secretary and five joint secretaries will greet Modi with flowers.

The first informal cabinet meeting will take place in the Cabinet room of te South Block, which has been spruced up.
