An old-fashioned bureaucrat who always works within the system, Dr PK Mishra, a 1972 batch, retired IAS of Gujarat cadre, is most likely to be Narendra Modi's principal secretary in the PMO, should Modi occupy the country's highest post in North Block in the national capital.

Dr Mishra was Modi's principal secretary when he became Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 dethroning Keshubhai Patel.

In 2004, Modi had sent him to the central deputation as additional secretary.

However, with the arrival of UPA, he was initially sidelined, but eventually became secretary agriculture as Sharad Pawar had demanded his services in his ministry from where he retired in 2007.

Subsequently, Modi had appointed him as chairman of the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission from where his term ended in 2013.
