Why Modi met vice president Hamid Ansari
June 04, 2014  17:02
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met to Vice President Hamid Ansari and sought his guidance in governance and diplomacy.

Ansari, who began his career as an officer in the Indian Foreign Service in 1961 was Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Indian High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The hour-long meeting between Modi and Ansari was termed as a courtesy visit, but BJP insiders say that it is Ansari's rich experience in diplomacy that will serve Modi well and Modi needs his guidance.

And there's this as well -- Dr Ansari is also chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Modi's task will be made easier if the Upper House functions smoothly.
