Just in: A woman conductor of a state transport bus has been stripped and beaten in Dombivali in suburban Mumbai. The accused had been arrested. Details awaited.

This comes in the wake of a horrific incident in which a 35-year-old tribal Garo woman's head was blown to pieces when she resisted rape in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya by suspected GNLA militants. She was shot in the head at point blank range, sparking outrage in the state.

The woman was at home with her husband and five children when four to five armed militants of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) entered their house at around 6 pm yesterday.
