In Handwara (J&K), Sajjad Lone votes. As many as 18 Assembly segments, spread over five districts - two in the Valley and three in Jammu region - will decide the fate of 175 candidates which includes the lone woman minister in the National Conference-Congress coalition government, Sakina Ittoo as well as the deputy speaker, four ministers and 11 other sitting MLAs.

Lone is in a triangular contest against sitting National Conference MLA Choudhary Ramzan -- against whom his father Abdul Gani Lone had fought bitterly -- and PDP's Ghulam Mohideen Sofi, Sajad's own creation, a shopkeeper whom he had made his proxy in 2002 and who defeated Ramzan.
