82 killed in police custody, 974 in judicial till Nov 15

Altogether 82 people were killed in police custody this year so far, while 974 such deaths were reported in judicial custody, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju told the Lok Sabha today. The figure was 140 in 2013.

Maximum cases were reported from Maharashtra and union territories since 2013-14, with 18 cases registered this year while in Jammu and Kashmir, no such death under police custody has been recorded since 2012-13.

Judicial custody deaths were 974 this year as against 1,577 in 2013.
