Jubilation at the Prime Minister's Office in South Block at the prospect of welcoming in a new chief. At the main reception of the PMO, the portrait of Dr Manmohan Singh will be removed on counting day -- May 16. The portraits of President Pranab Mukherjee and Mahatma Gandhi will remain.

The new PM can expect a grand welcome, which is most likely to take place in the third week of May. Enthusiasm is visible from the
whispers heard not only at the senior most echeleons of bureaucracy, but also at the ground zero level, so to speak -- gardeners.

An internal discussion with the guards have also taken place. In an earlier drill in 2004, at least 1198 guards had been reviewed. PM Dr Manmohan Singh in 2004 was received by Dr S Narain the then secretary to the outgoing Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the main gate of South Block.
