Gujarat Police takes Asaram to Ahmedabad for interrogation

Three days after a court in Ahmedabad permitted the Gujarat Police to take custody of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, he was taken to the city this afternoon for interrogation in connection with sexual assault case lodged by two Surat-based sisters against him and his son.

72-year-old Asaram will be taken to Ahmedabad via Mumbai and questioned about the allegations of rape, sexual assault and illegal confinement between 2001-2006.

The District and Sessions Court had given permission to Gujarat Police to take custody of Asaram on Friday itself, but fearing a backlash by his followers, Gujarat Police had waited for orders from their seniors on taking him to Ahmedabad.
