Economic growth implies greater opportunity for corruption

The PM says that in the public debate on corruption, it is forgotten that economic growth provides greater opportunity for corruption. While transparency is essential, we must not compromise on nation-building.

"Economic growth also implies greater possibility for corruption. We can't be running down institutions. We need to highlight their achievements as well. Sensitive investigations are becoming the topic of running media commentary. "

On the necessity of exempting CBI from RTI, he says confidentiality is vital and it is the need of the hour to introspect on autonomy of the CBI.

"We must remember that the CBI is a part of the executive. Sensitive probes have become a topic of running media commentary and we must work to ensure that confidentiality is maintained," says the PM at the CBI conference on corruption.
