Blast injures BSF jawan as Chhattisgarh goes to polls

Within an hour of Chhattisgarh going to polls this morning, television channels and other media reported an outbreak of violence in the state's Kanker region.

A BSF paramilitary soldier  was reported to have been injured in a blast in Bastar District's Kanker region.

On Sunday, two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were reported to have been injured in a landmine blast in Rajnandgaon District.

State Assembly polls are being held in 18 constituencies -- 12 in Bastar District and six in Rajnandgaon District.Chief Minister Raman Singh and three of his ministers are among 143 candidates contesting the polls in the first of the two-phase polls to the 90-member assembly. In all, 29,33,200 voters will be exercising their right to vote on Monday.
