'VC Shukla's surgery successful, but remains critical'

Dr Naresh Trehan, founder of Medanta Hospital, where Congress leader VC Shukla is being treated for gunshot wounds says Shukla's condition is stable, but critical. "He underwent surgery successfully, but the injuries to his intestines is cause for concern. He is on ventilator now and is being given dialysis. He will stay in ICU for now. In view of his age, recovery will take some time and we are hopeful he will improve."

Shukla was taken to a hospital at Jagdalpur, the divisional headquarters of Bastar, by road, from where he was taken to Medanta hospital in Gurgaon.
