A village girl, who was brutally assaulted by police in Punjab's Tarn Taran District, recalled her trauma on Tuesday and demanded the dismissal of all officials who had thrashed her on the roadside.

Harvinder Kaur told journalists in Tarn Taran that some truck drivers had harassed her, and when she and her father went to the police to file a complaint, they refused to help, and instead, started beating her up.

"While I was returning from a wedding, some truck drivers harassed me. I told my father and brother about it, they went to speak to those taxi drivers, who attacked them with swords and iron rods. My father, brother and I went to the police, but they refused to lodge a complaint, they didn't even ask me what had happened. They told my father that she is mad and brutally beat me,' said Kaur.
