Gang rape: Cong core group to meet today to decide way ahead
January 04, 2013  17:50
Our sources in Delhi tell us that a Congress core group comprising PM Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, political secretary Ahmed Patel, defence minister AK Antony, finance minister P Chidambaram and home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is meeting this evening to deliberate and decide the way ahead on security measures for women in the aftermath the gang rape case.

Shinde has already spoken earlier today saying the government would discuss whether the juvenile age should be lowered to 16 from the existing 18. It may be recollected that the sixth accused is a juvenile and is believed to have been the one who was the most brutal. While a chargesheet was filed against the five accused yesterday, a chargesheet is yet to be filed for the juvenile in the Juvenile Court.
