BJP charges Defence Minister AK Antony with giving a false statement in Parliament on the Italian chopper deal and asks him for a clarification on the AugustaWestland chopper deal.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad also hit out at the government earlier questioning whether the investigation into the Rs 3,700 crore deal was not done earlier because the company was from Italy.

The Ministry of Defence has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the allegations that kickbacks were paid to Indian middlemen in the Rs 3,700-crore deal to buy 12 high-security VVIP helicopters from Anglo-Italian company, AgustaWestland.

According to leaks from the Italian prosecutors, reported in the Italian media, an amount of 51 million Euro has been paid to facilitate the contract with New Delhi.
