Monopoly fans replace iron token with cat
February 07, 2013  12:11
Sheer nostalgia, this. Fans of the iconic game Monopoly have retired iron as a token and have replaced it with a cat, toy maker Hasbro Inc. announced on Wednesday.

The results were announced after the shoe, wheelbarrow and iron were neck and neck for elimination in the final hours of voting, which sparked passionate efforts by fans to save their favourite pieces, and by businesses eager to capitalize on publicity surrounding tokens that represent their products, the New York Daily News reported.

The voting on Facebook closed just before midnight on Tuesday, marking the first time that fans have had a say on the replacement of the token.

Other pieces that fought for a place on the game included a robot, diamond ring, helicopter and a guitar. Fans from more than 120 countries took part in the voting. The new Monopoly with the latest token will come out later this year.
