Bangles as sign of impotence? Offended girl takes matter to court
December 19, 2013  12:47
22-year-old Soumya Garg, who hails from tribal Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, has moved the Chhattisgarh high court over using bangles as symbol of impotence, reports Rashmi Drolia in the Times of India.

"Is it not derogatory to women when someone says 'choodi pehan ke ghar mein baitho' or present bangles to someone to brand the person as incompetent?" asks Soumya, in Rashmi's  report.

"It hit me during Nirbhaya's protest in Delhi, when I saw on television that people were showing bangles to the police, who allegedly failed to act in time. You are demanding for women's safety and empowerment by showing bangles as a symbol of weakness! I take it as an absolutely derogatory gesture and an insult to entire womanhood," she tells Rashmi.
