SC dismisses rape, confinement case against Rahul

The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition by Samajwadi Party MLA Kishore Samrite who made allegations, based on a website report, that on December 3, 2006, while on a tour of his constituency in UP Rahul Gandhi along with six friends raped a woman and detained her illegally. The Allahabad High Court earlier dismissed Smrite's petition, ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation probe against him and imposed a cost of Rs50 lakh.
The SC has imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh to the petitioner of which Rs 5 lakh would be paid to Rahul Gandhi. The court also said the CBI inquiry against Samrite would continue.
