Is govt reading Parliament records of Emergency?
October 11, 2012  18:12
The UPA2 has apparently been conducing a major exercise -- perusing the old records of the Winter Sessions of Parliament. Buzz has it that the government wants to curtail the number of days from 26 to 12.

Is the government afraid of a no-confidence motion as suggested by the Trinamool and the BJP? Floor managers in the UPA2 government are worried about the stability of the government and are scared it will be being toppled.

During the Emergency, Indira Gandhi did not want to hold a Winter Session of Parliament as records of a list of 25 winter sessions of Parliament suggest.

During the NDA rule, there was only one occasion where the Vajpayee government opted out.

But this has never happened during the P V Narasimha Rao or even the Rajiv Gandhi regimes.

It's a wait and watch for now...
