October 08, 2012  09:42

The BSE benchmark Sensex fell by almost 61 points in opening trade today on emergence of profit booking at higher levels.

The 30-share index, which had lost 120 points in the previous session, fell by 61.48 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 18,880.50.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty Index shed 26.35 points, or 0.46 per cent, to 5,720.60.

Brokers said investors indulged in profit booking following a recent rally in the stock market. They added that the recent upsurge in the markets was on the back of government's measures to support economic growth.
