The Opposition led by the BJP and the Left parties is observing a nationwide bandh today in protest against the recent hike in petrol price - the steepest ever in recent times. The unprecedented increase - of nearly Rs. 7.50 including taxes - met with major political uproar and public anger.

In Kolkata: Trains along the Sealdah route have been blocked. The East-West bypass is blocked.

In Karnataka: Protestors damage 11 buses in Bangalore. Bus services have been stopped.

In Delhi: Autorickshaws stay off the road.

In UP: Samajwadi Party workers block roads

In Pune: 13 ST buses have been damaged.

In Patna: JD(U) workers stage a rail roko.

In Mumbai: Heavy deployment of police across the city.

BJP workers have 'promised' to block traffic and stage demonstrations at several places. This is expected to result in major traffic jams in the Delhi.
