May 11, 2012  19:56

Vishwanathan Anand and Boris Gelfand drew the first game of their 12-game world chess championship match played at the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.

Anand, with white pieces, opened with a rare queen pawn opening while Gefland opted for the Grunfeld Indian Defence.

Anand made some aggressive moves mid-day through the match but Gefland matched him defensively.

Both agreed to a draw after 24 moves.
