Army chief: No comments on worthy predecessor
June 01, 2012  11:10

General Bikram Singh took over as the 25th Chief of the Indian Army yesterday. This morning, he visited the Amar Jawan Jyoti in New Delhi and after laying a wreath at the memorial for Indian soldiers, he went to the lawns of the South Block where he was given a guard of honour.

He succeeds General VK Singh, whose 26-month tenure was mired in controversies. VK Singh retired yesterday.

Speaking to reporters this morning, the new army chief said, "It's better to leave baggage behind, what happened is in the past. When you drive a car, you look at the windscreen not at the rearview mirror."
