IAS officer from the 1978 batch of the UP cadre Desh Deepak Verma was disappointed after being cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments as secretary Parliamentary affairs.

Desh Deepak Verma was hoping to continue as secretary general of the Sports Authority of India for three months. The PMO had apparently cleared his name as a delegate to the Olympics in London, and his wife was ready with baggage to take off on June 29. But the next day, Verma was asked to join as secretary n Parliamentary affairs.

Not only did Desh Deep Verma lose this 15-day stay in London, but was also shocked to learn that the department of Parliamentary affairs has only one joint secretary.

He was also taken aback when his private secretary told him that only one staff car was available and that too without air-conditioning.
