Pak secretly lobbying for defence pact with China

Pakistan has been secretly lobbying in recent months for a bilateral defence pact with China, tough there is little hope for an immediate breakthrough, Pakistani officials have said.

The Express Tribune quoted diplomatic and military officials as saying that Pakistan had made such attempts to win China's heart early this year when its relationship with the US weakened over several controversies.

Islamabad used backdoor and regular diplomatic channels in an attempt to convince the Chinese leadership that the agreement was mutually beneficial.
