September 11 attackers left little
clue: Report

American investigators searching through the caves and buildings abandoned by the terrorists in Afghanistan and suspected Al Qaeda hideouts in the United States are baffled that those behind the September 11 attacks left no trail at all, a report said on Sunday.

Among the thousands of documents discovered, not a single sheet of paper, not even one computer entry, mentions any aspect of the attack, NBC television network reported.

They did not even leave a clue in America, which is worrying the investigators, the report added.

FBI Director Robert Muller said the hijackers were highly disciplined and contacted no known terrorist sympathisers.

"They committed no egregious crimes. They dressed like Americans, shopping and eating at places like Wal-Mart and Pizza Hut, blending into the woodwork all the while," Muller said.

To track down possible Al Qaeda sleeper cells in the United States, the FBI has doubled the number of agents it assigns to terror prevention.

Events like the Boston Marathon and Winter Olympics, which draw large number of people, have been marked with large presence of its workforce.

The Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force has shifted its focus to spotting potential terrorist trying to enter the country, among the nearly 500,000 border crossings every year.
