Indo-Pak situation, Kashmir 'top priority': US

T V Parasuram in Washington

Ascribing a 'very important' label on Indo-US relations, Washington said that it has accorded 'top priority' to Indo-Pak relations and the situation in Kashmir.

White House Press Secretary Arie Fleischer told reporters on Monday that relations between India and the US have always been and will continue to be very important.

Considering the developments in Afghanistan, it is very important for India and Pakistan to peacefully resolve the differences involving Kashmir, he added.

Asked about the US state department's decision to withdraw non-essential US personnel out of Pakistan, Fleischer said, "Secretary Colin Powell took the decision after a careful review of the security situation in Pakistan."
