Nasser Hussain, the Chennai-born English cricket captain, Sir Gulam Noon, the leading NRI industrialist and Gurinder Chadha, the director of the film Bend it like Beckham, have been chosen for this year's Asian Achievers Award.
Sir Noon, the first ever Indian-born president of London Chamber of Commerce, was chosen for the award in the Business category at a dinner meeting organised by leading London-based Asian newspapers and weeklies in London on Tuesday.
Hussain was selected for the award in the sports category for his 'proficient captaincy'.
Chadha won the award in the art and culture category.
Patricia Hewitt, MP, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Keith Vaz, former minister for Europe, Paul Boateng, Chief Secretary, Treasury, Satyabrata Pal, Deputy Indian High Commissioner, Lord Bhiku Parekh, S P Hinduja and G P Hinduja, Chairman and President of the Hinduja Group respectively and Bhisham K Agnihotri, Ambassador-at-Large for NRIs and PIOs, attended the function.
