Speaking at the meeting of heads of Interpol on the sidelines of the 70th General Assembly of the world police on Wednesday night at Budapest, Hungary, Interpol's India head and CBI Director P C Sharma said, "Traditionally, General Assemblies in the past have concentrated on subjects like money laundering and counterfeiting."
"But the member countries will agree that the issues of international, trans-border or global terrorism should take priority and receive greater attention," he said.
Calling for cooperation among member nations, he said India would like them to undertake legislative changes in their national criminal law to expedite the execution of Red Corner notices and help nations fight crime by extraditing and handing over fugitives.
Sharma, who leads a six-member delegation to the meet, said "India endorses the suggestion that security review must be not only international but regional, addressing itself to the particular and special concerns of the region."
He extended India's cooperation to Interpol's efforts to reorganise the structure and working of the Interpol Secretariat General but urged that the functioning of various units and general services also be reviewed.
