Bracing the Americans for a long war against terrorism, President George W Bush on Saturday asked troops to "get ready" to retaliate against those behind the worst terrorist strikes and said "prime suspect" Osama bin Laden couldn't "hide from the United States".
"If he (bin Laden) thinks he can hide from the US and its allies, he is mistaken," Bush said just before he met his national security advisers at the Camp David presidential retreat.
"Everybody who wears the uniform should get ready. The US will do what it takes to win the war."
"We are at war. There has been an act of war declared upon America by terrorists, and we will respond accordingly," he said.
In a radio broadcast, Bush said: "We are planning a broad and sustained campaign to secure our country and eradicate the evil of terrorism."
Earlier briefing reporters on the National Security Council meeting, he said, "We will find who did it. We will smoke them out of their holes. We will get them running, and we will bring them to justice."
"There is a desire by American people not only to seek revenge, but to win a war," Bush said.
