Differences have reportedly surfaced in the Taleban leadership over the issue of turning over Saudi extremist Osama bin Laden to the US, a Russian news agency reported on Sunday.
Itar-Tass quoted reliable sources in Cairo as saying a group of Taleban ministers led by Foreign Minister Vakil Muttavakil had expressed their opinion that bin laden, the prime suspect in the September bombings in New York and Washington, should be turned over to the US to buy peace.
The ministers were said to be in favour of signing a peace agreement with the US in return for bin Laden.
Taleban chief Mullah Omar had recently turned down a US offer to end air strikes in Afghanistan in return for transfer of bin Laden, who is reportedly hiding in the country.
At present, the US is preparing to land ground troops in Afghanistan after a week of bombing of Afghan cities, including capital Kabul, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
