Another case of anthrax infection, the fourth in the United States, came to light on Friday in New York, when top NBC executives Robert Wright and Andrew Lack in an internal memo revealed that one of their employees was being treated with antibiotics for the infection.
The memo said, "We have no reason to believe that this particular incident has spread beyond this individual employee."
The memo added that the employee was expected to make a full recovery.
Giving details about how the infection occurred, the memo indicated that the employee, whose identity was withheld, underwent medical tests at the NBC headquarters after coming in contact with a 'suspicious mail'.
The memo said that the New York City Department of Health, the federal Centers for Disease Control and the FBI were contacted immediately.
The medical tests indicated that it was a cutaneous anthrax infection, which according to experts is not as dangerous as the infection arising from inhalation anthrax.
The anthrax case was the first recent one reported outside Florida, where investigators have been attempting to identify the source of the deadly bacteria that has been detected in three workers at a company that publishes tabloid newspapers.
One of the employees died of the disease.
