Osama bin Laden not in Pakistan: Musharraf

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said terror suspect Osama bin Laden was not in Pakistan.

Addressing a joint press conference with visiting head of the European Union and Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhosftadt, Musharraf said bin Laden 'would be unable to enter the country' because of strict vigilance on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Online news agency reported.

Musharraf also said that during his deliberations with the EU delegation various matters, including bilateral ties, current developments in Afghanistan and India-Pakistan ties, especially Kashmir, were discussed.

He said: "Pakistan was satisfied with the efforts being made for a broad-based, multi-ethnic political dispensation in Afghanistan."

Musharraf said Pakistan desired an amicable settlement of all its disputes with India including 'the core issue' of Jammu and Kashmir.

He dismissed Indian allegations that Pakistan was sponsoring terrorism in Kashmir saying: "The world has recognised the difference between terrorism and a freedom struggle for the right of self-determination."

The EU and Pakistan have signed an agreement on mutual cooperation under which the quota for Pakistani products would be increased and tariff decreased to give access them greater access in European markets. The EU would also support development projects in the country.
