After taking control of Mazar-e-Sharif on Saturday, the Northern Alliance forces continue to make gains in Afghanistan's northeast.
Reports on Monday morning said opposition forces have taken all Taleban-held positions along the Sharatai frontline in northeast Takhar province.
Taleban troops have suffered heavy casualties in the attacks. Opposition heavy artillery pounded Taleban hillside positions for a few hours on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said US forces have bombed some sites in Afghanistan that were believed to have been involved in manufacture of chemical and biological weapons.
Both Rumsfeld and Secretary of State Colin Powell have taken serious note of terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden's claim of possessing chemical and biological weapons.
