K J M Varma in Islamabad
In a significant move, the Pakistan government has directed Taleban Ambassador Mullah Abdul Salaam Zaeef to "limit" his activities and "barred" him from holding daily media briefings highlighting.
Zaeef, who turned out to be big draw for the international media present in Pakistan to cover the war in Afghanistan, had been told to limit his activities according to "diplomatic norms", said a report in the website of The News.
The move to block Zaeef from speaking could be a major setback for Taleban, as he is the only militia official to have direct access to the international media.
For the hundreds of foreign journalists in Pakistan, his anti-Western and pro-Islamic rhetoric provided the much needed "balance" to the news stories.
