British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott insisted the US-led military campaign against Afghanistan would continue through the much-feared harsh Afghan winter.
Addressing the House of Commons on Wednesday he said, "We will now begin the steady progress over the winter, building up to the spring of next year, of fragmenting, undermining and eventually destroying the Taleban regime as a serious force capable of inflicting any more damage on their country and the outside world."
Blair's Downing Street office had earlier said there is no timeframe for the Afghan military operations.
Prescott's comments came even as Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon admitted the imminent onset of winter in Afghanistan could limit military options.
"The weather is closing in. It does limit the opportunity of certain kinds of operations," Hoon had told Sky News in an interview.
