US forces can stay till terrorism is wiped out: Karzai

The new interim prime minister of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, on Monday reiterated his administration's resolve to fight terrorism and rebuild the battered country.

"United States forces would be welcome to stay in Afghanistan until all terrorist elements are wiped out. Generally the Taliban movement or that regime has completely gone away from Afghanistan. The main terrorist bases associated with them have been removed," he told CNN.

"There may be individuals hiding in parts of Afghanistan. We are looking for them. In recent days some have been arrested and we are looking for more," he said.

"We will see to it that terrorism is completely finished in Afghanistan in all its forms," he said.

Karzai said he would be willing to hand the Saudi-born militant over to the United States or an international tribunal if he was captured on Afghan soil.

"There is no way he can go unpunished. If we arrest him, we would deliver him to international justice," he said.
