"One American jet was shot down by Taleban forces during heavy bombarding of Kandahar airport," the Taleban's former ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef told the Afghan Islamic Press in Islamabad.
"The jet came down two km south of Kandahar airport and American warplanes are continuously bombing it," Zaeef said.
"It is possible that the pilot might have died due to the American bombing," he added.
However, Pentagon spokesman Captain Mike Halbig denied the claim saying, "Central command has informed me that all our aircraft are accounted for."
