Rabbani to accept interim council for Afghanistan

Northern Alliance president Burhanuddin Rabbani on Saturday said that he was ready to accept an interim "leadership council" of 25 people in Afghanistan.

Rabbani said he had made his thoughts known to the United Nations special representative for Afghanistan, Lakhdar Brahimi, and asked him to table it at the Afghan talks in Bonn, Germany.

"It would be better to have a four-month leadership council. I suggested this administration be shaped up of specialists and technocrats," Rabbani said in an interview.

"It will be from 12-25 personalities, and former king Zahir Shah could be a member of this council," he said.
