Raj Kapoor retrospective begins on Friday in ChicagoNitish S Rele Here's your chance once again to bring back pleasant memories of the great 'showman'. A Raj Kapoor retrospective of seven films begins on August 18 for 10 days at the Gene Siskel Film Centre in Chicago. The films that will be on show are Awara, Barsaat, Shri 420, Jagte Raho, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Mera Naam Joker and Bobby. All films will have English subtitles. The retrospective of the renowned filmmaker has been made possible by the consul general of India in Chicago, the Directorate of Film Festivals, and the external publicity division of the external affairs ministry. Other sponsors include Air-India and Polo Builders Private Limited. The retrospective inspired Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to say, "[The late] Raj Kapoor successfully combined art with entertainment, often drawing from real-life experiences. Through this retrospective, the organisers will be honouring an actor-director who became a legend in his lifetime." The Gene Siskel Film Centre is in the theatre of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago at 280 South Columbus Drive (at Jackson Boulevard). Tickets are priced at $7, but only $3 for Film Centre members and $2 for faculty, students and staff of the School of the Art Institute and the Art Institute. Tickets are available only at the door.
