The festival of Gangaur, a spring festival, begins from the day after Holi -- the first day of the Hindu month of Chaitra -- and continues for 18 days. During this period unmarried maidens as well as married women all over Rajasthan worship idols of Issar and Gauri, avatars of Shiva and his consort Parvati. Dedicated to the goddess Gauri, who symbolises conjugal bliss and marital happiness, at Gangaur women pray to be blessed with a good spouse or for the wellbeing and prosperity of their husbands.
