Sachin to lead India in Sharjah

Sachin Tendulkar has been named to lead the Indian team in the four-nation floodlight one day tournament for the Champions' Trophy, to be held in Sharjah from December 11.

He will also lead the side in the three one dayers against Sri Lanka later in December, to be played on Indian soil after the side returns from Sharjah.

BCCI secretary J Y Lele said that it took the selectors only a few minutes to confirm Sachin as captain, but added that this is just for the next 27 days. The national selectors will decide later the identity of India's captain against Australia, for the series that begins in January, Lele said.

Tendulkar, who leads India to Sharjah for the first time, has thus far led India in 48 one days, 16 wins against 27 defeats, four games declared no-result and one ending in a tie.

The squad of 14 for Sharjah will be picked sometime on Friday, by the national selectors now in Bombay.
