India's Mahesh Bhupathi and partner Mark Knowles of the Bahamas overcame a stiff resistance from the Spanish duo of Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco to advance to the doubles semi-finals at the Australian Open in Melbourne on Tuesday.

Third seeds Bhupathi and Knowles won 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 in a thrilling contest that lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

They will next play the unseeded pairing of Poland's Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach of Austria, who entered the last four beating the sixth seeded Polish duo of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 6-2, 6-2.

Meanwhile, top seeds Leander Paes and Cara Black of Zimbabwe were upset in the second round of the mixed doubles. They were beaten by Switzerland's Patty Schnyder and Wesley Moodie of South Africa 6-1, 7-5.

Top seed Yuki Bhambri stormed into the third round of the Junior Boys' Singles with a comfortable 7-6 (1), 6-0 victory against Australia's Stephen Hoh.

Bhambri also made it to the third round of the Junior Boys' Doubles when he and partner Liang-Chi Huang of the Chinese Taipei registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Italian Marco Bortolotti and Belarussian Vladzimir Kruk.

However, unseeded Kaza Vinayak Sharma fell by the wayside when he was knocked out in the second round of the Junior Boys' Singles. Justin Eleveld of the Netherlands thrashed Sharma 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the third round.

Kyra Shroff also failed to live upto expectations when she and Eugenie Bouchard of Canada were beaten 4-6, 1-6 in the second round of the Junior Girls' Doubles by American Christina McHale and Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia.
