India have been seeded third in Group I of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania zone as per the draw announced in Madrid on Tuesday.
India, who failed to break into the World Group after losing to Romania over the weekend, moved up a place to 23rd in the latest Davis Cup rankings.
They have been given a bye in the first round before taking on the winner of the match between Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan in the second round, scheduled from March 6 to 8, 2009.
Group I also has Australia, South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Uzbekistan.
The third round ties will be decided later.
Russia, despite their Davis Cup semi-final defeat by Argentina, retained the top spot in the rankings, with the United States following in second place.
