India continues to be the sole leader despite a shock defeat against Philippines in the seventh round of the World Youth Chess Olympiad in Singapore on Wednesday.

Riding on a victory of IM So Wesley, Philippines upset India 3-1.

India lost on the top three boards of Adhiban, Ashwath and Nitin while Swayams Mishra provided some consolation winning the fourth. Shyam Nikhil (5.5/6) was rested for the game.

However, India held on to a one point lead in the 34-team 10-round event with 20 points. They are followed by the Philippines (19 points) and Uzbekistan (18.5).

Tomorrow is a rest day, a release from the All India Chess Federation said in New Delhi.

Earlier in the morning session, India, who shot into sole lead by thrashing top seeds Hungary in the fifth round, humbled Turkey 3.5-0.5 in the sixth to widen its lead to three points.

With the Indians higher rated in all the four boards, Adhiban, Nitin and Nikhil won their games. Chennai's R Ashwath drew his game.

Adhiban with 5/6 on the top board and Nikhil on the fourth board are India's stars so far.
