Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza on Wednesday said she will never be a very fit player and will have to depend on her aggressive strokeplay to score winners.
"I know that I will never be an extremely fit player on tour. Fitness is not my forte. So I can't wait for the other person to get tired by holding rallies as some players like Martina Hingis would do," Sania told reporters in Kolkata on Tuesday.
"Though I have learnt to be more patient than before, I know I have to continue to play my strokes. I will win some and will lose some. But as long as the winners are more than losers I don't mind," she added.
Mirza said she had become more mature after two years on the circuit.
"Everything is not about defending points. Its about learning to live with the pressure. Actually I enjoy pressure nowadays. I have changed my attitude towards it," she said after motoring into the second round beating compatriot Rushmi Chakravarthi 6-0, 6-4.
Looking back at the year she said: "Like I said some years would be good and some bad. I think I had a mixed year. I didn't do badly in my doubles. I think I have grown as a person. I have become wiser."
Mirza had a meteoric rise in 2005 reaching in the top 30s from 105 before she began to slip. And in just over a matter of seven months she has slid from 34 to 70.
"I think I have grown as a person. I think about constructing a point and getting my way to earn it. I am learning everyday. I think in tennis you learn till you retire and even after that," Mirza said.
On her pairing with Leander Paes for the 2006 Asian Games, she said, "It's a decision taken by the AITF [All India Tennis Federation].
"If I was asked to pair with Karan Rastogi, I would have done so," she added.
